RetzerCummings and Mayer ), and this report focuses solely on sites sampled in in conjunction with IDNR and IEPA basin surveys. Much of the Mackinaw River basin. Banks, a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation archaeologist, and is a collection of 12 papers presented at the 47th Annual Meeting of the Plains Anthropological Society.

This reach runs through sandy material left behind after glacial drainage in the Illinois River basin, and shows a strong tendency for lateral movement and regular meanders. Steve surveys a reach in the Middle Mackinaw. Over 16 miles of river were surveyed in detail, in both long profile and cross-section.

There are also three endangered species present at this watershed: the Illinois chorus frog, the western hognose snake, and the Illinois mud turtle. Information on the streamflow in the Nation's rivers also helps to ensure adequate water resources for a healthy environment and economy.

County.The Mackinaw River Basin, as opposed to the entire IRB, was chosen to validate the DEM-extracted stream network so that possible discrepancies could be examined in greater detail.

The river network for the Mackinaw River Basin derived from the DEM was compared to the EPA network by overlaying the EPA stream network with the extracted network.The two largest sites are a wooded tract along the river and the Mackinaw River itself.

Two small sites include a hill prairie and a geological area. BIOLOGICALLY SIGNIFICANT STREAMS: Three stream segments totalling 27 miles are designated as BSS streams in this RRA, including a 16 mile portion of the Mackinaw River and miles of Panther Creek.
